Your guide to summer weddings in Brisbane!

Summer weddings in Brisbane bring warm days and beautiful evenings, making them a popular choice for couples ready to celebrate their love with vibrant energy. The extended daylight hours allow more time for photos and festivities, especially with sunsets happening between about 6:30 PM and 7:15 PM during the summer months. Planning your ceremony or portraits around this time means you can capture that soft, golden light that makes wedding and engagement photography truly magical.

Brisbane summer wedding photography

Since Brisbane summers can get quite warm, it’s important to plan ways to stay comfortable throughout the day. Here are a few tips that can help you and your guests beat the heat:

  • Schedule outdoor events later in the afternoon or early evening to avoid the harsh midday sun.

  • Choose lightweight, breathable fabrics for your wedding attire.

  • Provide shaded areas and plenty of refreshing drinks for guests.

  • Use cooling fans or portable misters to keep the air comfortable.

  • Encourage guests to wear sun-safe accessories like hats and sunglasses during outdoor moments.

One great way to keep things easy and comfortable on a hot summer day is to choose an all-in-one venue where your ceremony, photos, and reception are all in one place. This means no one has to worry about driving between locations in the heat, which can save time and keep the vibe relaxed. It’s also worth considering venues with good air conditioning — especially for indoor parts of your day — so everyone can cool off and enjoy themselves. And while it’s tempting to start the celebrations early with a few drinks, pacing the alcohol throughout the day helps keep everyone feeling their best well into the evening.

For engagement sessions and wedding portraits, early mornings and late afternoons offer the best natural light and cooler temperatures, which can make your photos feel fresh and natural. Incorporating local greenery or summer-inspired details can add a vibrant touch to your celebration and photos, giving your wedding a unique seasonal charm.

If you’re searching for a Brisbane wedding photographer with experience shooting summer weddings and engagement sessions, I’d love to connect. Together, we can create images that capture the warmth and joy of your special day, making memories you’ll cherish forever.

What to Wear for Your Engagement Session

Planning your engagement session and stuck on what to wear? Don’t worry — it’s easier than it sounds. Whether we’re heading to a beachside spot in Redcliffe, the Sunshine coast or the Gold Coast, the Brisbane Botanic Gardens, or a city laneway, the key is to feel like yourselves and wear something that lets you relax and have fun.

Here are a few tips to help you nail your outfits — no stress, just good vibes!

Choose Comfort First

You’ll be walking, hugging, sitting, and maybe even spinning during your engagement session — so comfort is key. Choose outfits you can move in easily without feeling restricted. Avoid anything too tight, itchy, or fussy that might distract you. Stick with breathable fabrics that feel good on your skin and let you move naturally. And don’t forget your feet — wear shoes you can walk in without having to think twice.

Coordinate, Don’t Match

You’re not twins, so you don’t need to dress like it. The goal is to look cohesive, not identical. Choose two or three colours that work well together, and play with textures like denim, linen, or knits to create visual interest. Try to avoid clashing prints or anything too bold that might compete with each other. And keep both of your outfits at a similar level of dressiness so neither of you feels overdressed or underdressed next to the other.

Dress for the Location

Your photoshoot location significantly influences how your outfit appears on camera, so let the setting inspire your wardrobe choices. For beach photoshoots along the Sunshine Coast, Redcliffe, Gold Coast, Byron Bay or Coffs Harbour, flowy outfits work beautifully, capturing the coastal breeze and adding a sense of movement. In nature or bushland settings around Redcliffe, Brisbane, or the hinterlands, earthy tones like olive, rust, and beige blend seamlessly with the natural environment. If you're planning a city or urban photoshoot in Brisbane city, opt for a smart-casual look with clean lines and modern details to complement the structured backdrop. Whatever you wear, avoid colours that blend into your surroundings—we want you to stand out, not disappear!

Keep It Timeless

Trends are fun, but timeless always wins when it comes to photos you’ll look back on for years. Skip logos, bold graphics, or anything too trend-driven that could feel outdated later. Soft tones, muted colours, and light layering add depth without overwhelming your look. Most importantly, wear something that actually feels like you — not just something you think you should wear.

Be Yourselves

This is the most important part — just be you. Choose clothes that reflect your personality and style, whether that’s relaxed, bold, quirky, or minimal. Add those personal touches you love, like your favourite hat, boots, or jacket. Don’t stress about being “perfect” — the best photos are always the ones that feel real and true to who you are. And if you’re ever unsure, just send us a message with your outfit options — We are always happy to help!

Ready to start planning your engagement session? Whether you're dreaming of a romantic beachside shoot in Redcliffe, the Gold Coast or the Sunshine Coast a sunset stroll through Brisbane City, or a golden hour adventure in the hinterland, we’re here to make the entire experience fun, relaxed, and uniquely you.

Bride’s First Look with Parents & Bridesmaids: Tips for a Beautiful Moment

Hey there, soon-to-be-married couples! Let’s talk about one of those moments packed with all the feels — the bride’s first look. As your wedding photographer, I can tell you this part of the day is often just as emotional and beautiful as the first look with your partner. And yes, it makes for some of the best photos, too!

This moment lets you share your bridal glow with the people who mean the most to you before the big “I do.” It’s a chance to soak in their reactions, share hugs, tears, and laughter without the pressure of the ceremony crowd. Plus, it can calm some nerves and get the day rolling on a joyful note.

Here are a few tips to keep this moment smooth and memorable:

  • Pick a quiet spot — Choose a cozy, private place where you won’t feel rushed or watched. It helps everyone feel relaxed and really present.

  • Time it right — Plan this before the ceremony but after you’re fully dressed and ready. That way, you’re fresh and glowing, and there’s plenty of time for photos without rushing.

  • Keep it real — Encourage everyone to be themselves — whether that’s happy tears, big hugs, or silly jokes. Authentic moments make the best pictures.

  • Involve everyone — If your bridesmaids or parents are a bit shy, gently invite them to share a special moment with you — a group hug, a quick toast with champagne, or just a sweet compliment.

  • Trust your photographer — Let your photographer guide you through this. We know how to capture those candid, raw emotions that will make you smile every time you look back.

Seeing parents’ faces light up and bridesmaids get a little teary is one of the highlights of the day. These moments tell your story beyond the ceremony — showing the love, the friendships, and the family bonds that support you as you start this new chapter. So if you’re thinking about including a first look with your parents and bridesmaids, go for it! It’s a small part of the day that leaves a huge emotional footprint.

Wedding Day Run Sheet

As Brisbane Wedding Photographers, we often get asked about timing for your wedding day.

We love to be involved in the planning process and help with timing on the day as much as possible.

Here are a few tips that may help when it comes to booking your wedding photographer and choosing what time you would like them to start.

This is a rough idea of a timeline for a wedding day from a photographers perspective, based on a 6pm Sunset. (This would be our ideal timeline based on an ‘all in one’ venue - remember to take extra time into account if there is travel time required in-between)

11.45 - 12.40pm Groom Prep (If you have 2 photographers, bride and groom prep can be done at the same time by having one photographer with each of you)
12.45- 2.15pm - Bride Prep
2.30pm Photographer arrive at Ceremony
3-3.30pm Ceremony
3.30 - 4pm Congratulations
4 - 4.30pm Family Photos
4.30 - 6.15 Location Photoshoot
6.15 Photographer arrive to Reception
6.25 Guests Enter Reception
6.35 Bridal Party Entrance
7pm Main meals (Check with your venue on how much time they need to serve and clear tables)
7.30pm Speeches/ Cake Cutting
8.30pm First Dance

Our Advice:

Groom prep: We recommend having your photographer for about 45min to 1 hour. If you have a large bridal party or lots of people getting ready together then extra time may be required.

During this time we take some photos of the grooms details such as his tie, cufflinks, shoes, watch, rings and anything else that he has that is special for your wedding day.

After we do a few details, we will ask the boys to get dressed and as they do, we capture them putting their ties, vests, cufflinks, jackets on. Followed by a few photos with the groom and groomsmen and then a couple of photos with mum and dad if they are there too.

We have a fairly natural approach to this part of the day. We like to capture things as they happen and capturing the exciting and build up to what is about to happen.

Bride prep: We recommend having your photographer with you for about 1.5 - 2 hours.

We like to arrive just before your hair and make up is due to finish and this is so we can capture some photos of your hair and make up being completed. While you’re hair and make up is getting finished off, this is a great time for us to capture the Brides details such as your flowers, shoes, jewelry, perfume etc.

Before the bridesmaids start getting dressed, we love to get some fun and natural photos of you and your bride tribe altogether - even having a champagne or just relaxing a little bit before getting dressed.

We will ask the bridesmaids to get dressed first then they can help the bride get ready. We also suggest that your mum and dad are dressed by this time too if you would like them in some photos or if you would like them to help you get ready.

We capture those final getting ready moments, mum or your bridesmaids doing up the back of your dress, putting on jewelry and shoes etc.

If your dad or even your mum or bridesmaids haven’t seen your dress yet, doing a first look/ dress reveal with dad can be really nice too.

Your photographer will then take some formal photos once everyone is dressed and then spend a bit of time getting some beautiful portraits of the bride before she leaves.

Your Ceremony: It’s important that your photographer arrives before the bride. We like to plan to arrive about 30min before your ceremony starts. (If you have a videographer, they may need to arrive about 45min beforehand to set up)

This gives us time to take some photos of your ceremony all set up, guests arriving and the boys waiting. It also gives us a chance to speak with your celebrant if they have any special requests or if they need to let us know about anything specific.

After your ceremony, your guests will want to congratulate you so we advise to allow around about 20-30 mins for your guests to give you a hug and say hello and then about another 30 mins for group and family photos.

Location Photoshoot: Having between 1 hour to 1.5 hours for your photoshoot is ideal.

If you have a large bridal party, then having longer is great as it allows your photographer to get a range of photos with everyone. If you have a photoshoot with just the two of you then having around 1 hour on location is great.

Remember to allow for any travel time in between locations

Time saving tips:

  • If you don’t want to stay away from guests for too long, you could consider just having a photoshoot with the two of you and leave the bridal party to mingle with guests.

  • You may like to spend 30min or so having canapes with your guests before heading to photoshoot (Just take this time into consideration)

  • You may like your bridal party to just stay for photos for 15min and then they can join your guests while your photographer focuses on some couple photos. (This can speed up your photography session as there are less people)

Reception: Allow for your photographer to be inside reception about 15-20 min before guests enter to capture some photos of the room all beautifully set up. (After all there is a chance you may not get to see it without people in the room), this also allows for your photographer to be set up and ready for the bridal party entrance.

Every reception runs a bit differently and has different timings for your formalities (Cake cutting speeches and first dance). If you would like a full day coverage, our recommendation is to have your photographer finish up about 30 -45min after your first dance. This allows them to capture all your formalities along with a few fun photos of everyone on the dance floor.

Of course, if you are doing a sparkler exit or a farewell then having your photographer stay right until the end is a great way to truly capture all the moments of the reception too.

If you have any questions on planning your wedding day or would like a hand with working out run times for your wedding day, feel free to get in touch with us. We have attended over 600 weddings and are always happy to lend a hand in working out your wedding day run sheet.

We also have wedding day run sheets that we give to all our couples to help your day run smoothly.

These times above are just a guideline, every wedding day is a bit different and the types of photos that you would like may also differ. Most importantly, speak with your photographer and videographer before locking in your ceremony and reception timeline just to make sure you have allowed enough time to capture the photos that are most important to you.

Wedding photography at Tiffany's, Maleny

Wedding’s at Tiffany’s is a beautiful venue for your wedding photography. They have a gorgeous white chapel with amazing views of the Glass house mountains.

Wedding’s at Tiffany’s have staff who are friendly and helpful and it is always a pleasure to capture your wedding photography at a high end wedding venue.

Whilst being Redcliffe based wedding photographers and videographers, we travel to the Sunshine Coast often.

This is some wedding photography we have recently captured at Tiffany’s Venue, Maleny for the wedding of Brian and Katie. Katie got ready near by at Spicers tamarind retreat which was a very beautiful and relaxing way to spend the morning of the wedding getting ready.

Katie had her hair and make up done by Bella Brides who travel to Maleny and do the most beautiful job in getting the girls ready.

Their wedding Ceremony in the small white chapel at Tiffany’s was just beautiful. They had many family and friends come to witness this very special occassion. Their celebrant was Felicity McShane from Fusion Elements. Felicity always does such beautiful ceremonies, she really personalises them. She told the story of Katie and Brian and how they got to be where they are today. There may have been a few happy tears by many guests including the bride and groom :)

When choosing a wedding photographer for your Wedding at Tiffany’s, be sure to make sure they get a photo of the view, after all, it’s priceless!

After their ceremony we captured their family photos with the outlook of the amazing view as a backdrop for the photos.

There are so many beautiful places for wedding photos with your bridal party, there are lots of great places at Tiffany’s. If you would like to stay on site and Tiffany’s, there is no need to travel anywhere else. However, many also take the opportunity to visit the famous One Tree Hill which is just up the road, there are also another couple of iconic spots near by - just ask when chatting to your wedding photographer.

Wedding’s at Tiffany’s have the most beautiful wedding reception venue that can be set up in many different ways depending on the number of guests.
This wedding was styled by Sharon from All Perfectly Planned who added the amazing finishing touches.

The MC and DJ for this wedding was DJ Ryan Hancock who had his photobooth set up, along with his dancing on a cloud effect for the first dance. It creates something extra special about the first dance.

Check out some of their wedding reception photography. We had 2 photographers at this wedding so we could offer lots of great angles and lots of extra photos too.

When we have the opportunity, we love to sneak out of the reception for some night time photos, this gives you a chance to get away from the party for a few mintues and really take in the day with your new husband/wife.

At Tiffany’s, the staff turn all thelights on in the chapel and provide the perfect opportunity for some night time wedding photography.

Wedding photography at Glengariff Historic Estate, Brisbane

Matthew and Mia were married at the beautiful and historic Glengariff Historic Estate located in Mount Mee, North of Brisbane.

They had a winter wedding at Glengariff surrounded by their closest friends and family. Matt and Mia choose to have 2 wedding photographers (Peter and Lauren). We also filmed their full wedding ceremony and their reception speeches for them.

Mia had so many comments from the amazing sunflowers that her and the bridesmaids had for their bouquets. They looked gorgeous against the dresses.
Matthew and the groomsmen choose a brown suit which really stood out as something a bit different.

These two are total country bumpkins at heart and Mia wore cowgirl boots under her wedding gown to bring out their ‘inner’ country -selves :)

It was such a fun and relaxed wedding day.

In Matt and Mia’s photography package they had a canvas print and this was the photo they choose to have printed:
